Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft cloth to prevent dirt build-up. To maintain the bright finish, use a gentle metal polish sparingly, or apply a coat of clear microcrystalline wax to preserve existing surface oxidisation and protect the metal from moisture.

These versatile metal vessels can be styled on a fireplace hearth holding firewood, positioned in an empty corner housing large indoor greenery, or displayed on a sideboard as a statement centerpiece for floral arrangements.

Authentic period pieces usually show hand-worked seam construction, slight irregularities in hand-engraved detailing, and natural surface wear or oxidisation in hard-to-clean crevices. The weight of original thick-gauge brass and hand-riveted fittings also help distinguish them from modern reproductions.

Victorian brassware was typically constructed from sheet brass or cast brass components, utilizing repousse, chasing, and engraving techniques to create raised designs such as coats of arms, crests, and gadrooned borders. Handles were often cast separately and attached using heavy rivets.

During the Victorian era, brass planters and cachepots became popular interior accessories designed to hold indoor house plants, ferns, or coal and logs near hearths. Often produced with heraldic motifs or classical relief decoration, they served both functional and decorative purposes in period homes.
