We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A chiffonier is a small sideboard or cabinet that became popular in the early nineteenth century. Victorian examples often feature a raised upper shelf supported by turned pillars, lower cupboard doors, and a compact footprint designed for dining or drawing room storage.

Victorian cabinetmakers frequently used dense hardwoods such as rosewood, mahogany, and walnut. Lower doors were often panelled with timber, glass, or pleated silk fabric backed by brass mesh, while structural elements featured hand-carved details or turned spindle supports.

Authentic pieces display characteristic construction details such as hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, dark grain pattern variations typical of natural rosewood, and evidence of hand-tooling on rear panels. Original brass locks, escutcheons, and plinth bases without modern machine screws also indicate period authenticity.

Place a chiffonier in a hallway, dining room, or living space as a focal point for storage and display. Pair the dark wood tones with neutral wall colours, contemporary ceramics, or art prints on the upper shelf to create a balanced mix of traditional and modern design elements.

Dust regularly with a dry, lint-free microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish along the wood grain once or twice a year to preserve moisture. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent wood shrinkage, veneer cracking, or fading of the timber colour.
