Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Imari porcelain refers to Japanese export ceramics produced in the town of Arita, historically shipped from the port of Imari. Characterised by a combination of underglaze cobalt blue and overglaze iron red with gilded accents, these wares typically feature complex floral, geometric, and nature-inspired motifs.

Imari wares are crafted from high-fired kaolin clay porcelain. The underlying blue patterns are painted using cobalt oxide before the initial firing, followed by overglaze enamel painting in iron red, green, or yellow, and finished with a final low-temperature glaze firing.

Authentic pieces display distinct hand-painted irregularities, subtle spur marks on the base from kiln supports, and a characteristic colour palette combining cobalt blue and iron red. The translucent quality of the porcelain body and the texture of the raised overglaze enamels also distinguish antique production from modern reproductions.

A large Imari charger can be displayed on a wooden stand upon a sideboard or mantelpiece to create a focal point. Alternatively, group multiple pieces on a gallery wall or mount a single charger inside a recessed alcove to contrast against modern neutral paint schemes.

Clean gently using a soft, dry lint-free cloth or a lightly dampened microfibre cloth with warm water. Avoid abrasive chemical cleaners, harsh detergents, and automatic dishwashers, as these will erode delicate overglaze enamels and gilded details.
