George III Armorial Silver Coffee Pot, London 1777

18th century
Description

A substantial George III sterling silver coffee pot of baluster form, raised on a stepped pedestal foot and with domed hinged cover surmounted by a cast flame finial. The body, lid, spout and foot profusely chased throughout with rococo decoration of flowers, scrolling acanthus, and shell cartouches — likely enhanced during the 19th century in the rococo-revival taste then fashionable.

The front engraved with a fine armorial cartouche bearing a family arms and motto, three stars in chief above a beast rampant, surmounted by a demi-wolf crest, with the motto "VINCIT QUI SE VINCIT" ("He conquers who conquers himself") on a scrolled ribbon.

Fully hallmarked to underside for London 1777: crowned leopard's head, lion passant, date letter "b." Maker's mark partially obscured by a later punch, with the letter "W" visible.

Height 34 cm , Width 23 cm , Depth 15 cm , Weight 1175 grams

Very good antique condition with attractive natural patina.

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
