Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the mid-twentieth century, electroplated metal figurines gained significant popularity in Britain as decorative desk accessories and mantelpiece ornaments. Often depicting sporting themes such as hunting, horse racing, and country wildlife, these pieces were crafted as cast metal items coated in a fine layer of silver via electroplating.

These ornaments are typically cast from a dense base metal, such as nickel silver, brass, or spelter, using detailed molds to capture anatomical features like manes and muscular definition. Following casting, the figure undergoes electroplating to coat the exterior in silver, followed by hand-finishing to highlight details.

Authentic mid-century silver-plated pieces generally exhibit makers stamps or electroplate quality marks, such as EPNS (Electroplated Nickel Silver), near the base or under a hoof. They demonstrate weight consistent with cast solid metal and display natural tarnish or oxidisation in deeper carved recesses rather than uniform surface wear.

A silver-plated horse statuette functions well on an office desk, styled atop a stack of cloth-bound books, or alongside leather desk blotters. Placing the piece on open timber shelving or a mantelpiece creates a contrast between cool metallic surfaces and warm natural woods.

Maintain silver-plated items by dusting regularly with a soft, lint-free microfibre cloth. To remove tarnish, apply a specialized silver polish cream using gentle pressure to avoid wearing down the thin electroplated layer, and refrain from using harsh abrasive cleaners or dipping solutions.
