Phil Bell Antique Rugs has dated this Antique Persian Khamseh Rug to the 1900s.
The border is worthy of note with rows of peacocks looking into the inner field, the white background creates the perfect frame for the darker busier centre. I love the boteh that border the central field and then comes an explosion of motifs, flowers, trees and birds filling every available space around the central motif. It would bear a lifetime of study and it is one of those rugs that I find mesmerising. Great rugs are a sort of visual meditation and this is truly a great piece.
There is some moth damage, including small holes. There is also some wear across the centre.
