Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A tastevin is a shallow silver saucer historically used by winemakers and sommeliers to evaluate the colour, clarity, and aroma of wine. The shallow depth and reflective silver surface allowed light to pass through the liquid in dimly lit wine cellars.

Nineteenth-century French wine tasters were typically hand-hammered from solid silver or high-grade silver alloys. Craftsmen frequently incorporated repousse work, punch work, loop handles, and custom engraved inscriptions around the rim.

Authentic French silver from this period bears official punch marks, such as the Minerva head hallmark used after 1838, along with a makers mark enclosed in a lozenge shape. Examining the weight, wear around the rim, and hand-cut engraved lettering also provides evidence of period authenticity.

An antique silver wine taster functions well as a decorative accent on a sideboard, drinks trolley, or bookshelf. It can also serve as a catchall dish for small trinkets or cuff links on a dresser.

Clean silver with a soft microfibre cloth and a mild, non-abrasive silver polish formulated for antiques to preserve the natural oxidisation in carved details. Avoid harsh chemical dips or dishwasher cleaning, as these strip away historical patina.
