South west persia. First quarter 20th century.
Probably by the arab jabbareh tribe of the khamseh confederation.
In virtually perfect order with full lustrous pile, coloured side bindings and ends secured. Plethora of pecking chickens and animals, tribal motifs throughout the design. I especially like the main ivory coloured border with stylised alternating bird motifs.
As ever in these particular arab weavings the colours are absolutely wonderful being made with vegetable dyes which give an almost luminescent appearance especially the blues which is why I am so drawn to tribal rugs from this particular region.
