Quchan Kurdish Rug

£1,450    $1,940    €1,691
At the time of writing I have another similar example of this type on my website. These rugs from the Darreh Gaz region in the province of Khurusan often have garden designs which feature the Kurdish abyss motif. The construction is loose and floppy with mutliple red wefts between each row of knots. The colours are wonderful as is to be expected on an old Kurdish rug. The three bold motifs that dominate the central field are flanked ny memling guls at each end whilst the remainder of the field is dotted with an array of smaller motifs. Note how some of these are unfinished, it seems the Kurdish approach to weaving rugs is random and dynamic, the design evolves and changes at the weaver’s whim. I simply love this type of rug.

Quite a lot of wear and some repair but still a very usable piece. As to be expected with these rugs it is very wonky and a little bumpy in places.
