Very Handsome and Unusual Victorian Ivory, Silver Plate and Steel Carving Set in the Original Fitted Case.

19th century
Description

Very handsome late 19th century Victorian carving set in the original fitted silk and velvet lined case.

The three pieces are adorned with ivory diagonally cut and curved ended handles fixed to the steel blades with a large and ornate silver plate leaf and swag embossed ferrule. The working portions of the set are steel, sharply pointed, and all in very good condition, including the spring for the carving fork. They appear to only have had very gentle use in their lifetime.

The ivory is undamaged, and has beautiful colour and patina.

The knife steel is cast with an unusual hexagonal shape.

The knife is marked Maurice Baum Sheffield, who was active in the late 19th century.

Size-knife is 14.75 inches long by 1.25 inches wide, fork is 10.75 inches long by .75 inches wide, steel is 11.75 inches long by .75 inches wide. Case overall is 16.5 inches long by 5 inches wide by 1.5 inches high.

Weight-830 grams total in case for shipping.

A very good quality carving set in very good condition to use or to give as a gift.

It will make a lovely presentation on the dining table.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
