An unusual novelty silver inkwell of very large proportions formed as a bell with hinged lid and ring handle knop. Fitted with a clear glass liner. A simple period monogram is engraved to the front. The weighted base is covered with the original leather. Hallmarked for Birmingham 1912, makers A & J Zimmerman.
It measures 14cm (5 1/2'') high and 12.5cm (4 15/16'') wide. Total weight 615g, including the weighted base.
It is in very good condition: the ring handle has been neatly repaired at the base and there is a pin prick ding just below the hinge. No dents, holes or other issues. The liner is good. Minor handling wear.
