A 19th century bronzed, Grand Tour spelter statue of Guiliano di Medici, a renaissance style statue by Michelangelo, Florence and reproduced for the Grand Tour, English market.
This late 19th century was initially a gas lamp and almost certainly a newel post gas lamp of a significant country or important town house staircase.
The lamp was adapted to electric during the early 20th century and has its original bulb housing of the period and traces of mid 20th century wiring but, is recommended to rewire if intended to use as a lamp again.
The spelter statute is well cast with crisp details, it retains excellent posture and structure without dents, please note there is a crack to the wrist that supports the light, it is not loose and doesn’t go all the way around.
