Brass And Leather Club Fender With Upholstered End Seats

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Shackladys Antiques

A polished brass club fender with upholstered leather end seats, designed for placement in front of a fireplace hearth. The architectural brass frame forms a long protective rail with integrated seating at each end, each stool topped with warm brown leather upholstery finished with decorative nailhead trim. Classical urn-form mounts add a subtle neoclassical detail to the otherwise clean, linear structure.

Club fenders originated in English gentlemen’s clubs in the 19th century, where they allowed guests to sit comfortably close to the fire while the brass rail protected clothing from sparks and heat. This example combines practical function with elegant materials, the rich leather and bright brass creating a refined yet inviting appearance.
