Middlesex Yeomanry Zulu War Era Silver Plate Pint Tankard 1879 Military Antique

A very interesting English silver plated one pint tankard. It is has been made from old Sheffield plate, a thin plate of silver over copper and dates by it inscription to c1879. It has been decorated with cherubs and engraved to its base MIDDLESEX YEOMANRY CAVALRY C TROOOP 1879 1st PRIZE HEADS and POSTS H S COWDELL. Members of the Middlesex Yeomanry were involved with the Zulu Wars round this time. It is in good condition being free from dings splits distortions and repairs, there is wear to the outside with copper showing through and a patch of wear to the inside - see photos. It measures 4.5 inches tall by 6 inches wide including the handle and weighs 648 grams. A very interesting example.
