The Silver Squirrel has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
It has been decorated with cherubs and engraved to its base MIDDLESEX YEOMANRY CAVALRY C TROOOP 1879 1st PRIZE HEADS and POSTS H S COWDELL. Members of the Middlesex Yeomanry were involved with the Zulu Wars round this time. It is in good condition being free from dings splits distortions and repairs, there is wear to the outside with copper showing through and a patch of wear to the inside - see photos. It measures 4.5 inches tall by 6 inches wide including the handle and weighs 648 grams. A very interesting example.
