Description

A fine Art Deco walnut desk by Maurice Adams, with four drawers to each side and a central door, each with circular turned handles. A pull out slide to each side, to enable further working areas. The central drawer, once locked, also simultaneously locks six of the other eight drawers. Makers label to the front left hand drawer. Designed to face a room if required. Raised on small bun feet, that have built in wheels. A quality piece throughout.

All our furniture is professionally waxed and polished and restored where necessary. This desk is in very good condition and the desk’s original leather surface has been cleaned and polished to continue to preserve it.

Maurice Adams saw himself as the natural successor to the great furniture makers of the eighteenth century and had ambitious plans for 20th-century British interior design. All Adams’s furniture was made by hand in Gloucester and displayed in Adams’s showroom in Portman Square, London. An example of this desk can be seen on page 96, (as pictured) of the book, ‘Modern Decorative Art’ by Maurice S.R. Adams. 1930.
