A fine horse portrait oil on canvas by the artist George E Sharpe of Lincoln. The work is typical of Victorian horse portraiture with the animal dominating the work in a stable setting and including a dog looking up at the animal. The painting is signed on the reverse George E Sharpe of Lincoln, who is an unknown artist but would have been an itinerant painter travelling around working on commissions of the animals of wealthy patrons. The work is in very good condition, it has had a tear professionally repaired and some minor touching in, with a slight overall craquelure which is typical of this type of painting. The birds eye maple frame is the original, in excellent condition and with a beautiful patina. The whole is a fine example of horse painting of the nineteenth century with a huge decorative impact.
