Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Oushak carpets originate from the town of Usak in western Turkey, which has been a major centre for rug production since the Ottoman Empire. These carpets are renowned for their artistic designs, often featuring large-scale floral motifs and a softer, more muted colour palette compared to other Persian or Anatolian rugs.

Traditional Oushak carpets are hand-knotted using hand-spun wool for both the pile and the foundation, often featuring wool or cotton warps and wefts. Natural dyes derived from plants, roots, and insects are utilised to achieve their characteristic soft, abrash colour variations.

Authentic pieces exhibit irregularities in weave and design due to their handmade nature, alongside natural wear and oxidisation of the wool fibres. Examination of the knot structure, fringe integration, and the subtle tonal variations in the natural dyes also helps verify authenticity.

An antique Oushak carpet acts as a grounding element that bridges contemporary and traditional design aesthetics. It can be paired with neutral upholstery, minimalist furniture, and clean lines to let the intricate pattern and muted tones take centre stage.

Preservation requires regular gentle vacuuming without a rotating beater bar to protect the pile, alongside professional cleaning by specialists in antique textiles. Direct exposure to intense sunlight should be minimised to prevent fading of the natural dyes.
