This early twentieth-century French Louis XV revival writing table is veneered in warm brown kingwood with intricate floral marquetry across the frieze and a raised central drawer gallery at the back. It stands on elegant cabriole legs fitted with ornate ormolu mounts, sabots, and detailed scroll handles. The top surface features a shaped, pale green, tooled leather insert bordered by kingwood and ormolu banding. Brass hardware highlights the drawers, while decorative ormolu mounts accent the corners and feet. The table measures 97.5 cm wide by 47 cm deep and 92 cm high, with a compact footprint that suits smaller sitting rooms, studies, or bedrooms as a functional writing desk or display surface.

French Louis XV style writing tables are characterised by curvilinear forms, including slender cabriole legs, asymmetrical rococo influence, intricate wood marquetry, and gilt-bronze ormolu mounts fitted to edges and corners.

These tables are traditionally constructed with a solid hardwood carcass, veneered in exotic timbers such as kingwood and tulipwood, featuring leather insert writing surfaces and cast brass or bronze mounts.

Authentic pieces display hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, natural timber oxidisation beneath construction areas, cast mounts tailored specifically to the wood contours, and genuine leather or gold-tooled writing surfaces.

Position the table as a focal point in a dedicated study space, bedroom alcove, or living room, pairing it with modern neutral lighting and minimal decorative accents to highlight the timber grain and metalwork.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply beeswax sparingly to timber surfaces, keeping the item away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent veneer lifting or discolouration.
