This Victorian gentleman's shaving stand dates from 1890 and is constructed from mahogany, brass, painted metal, and glass. The dark brown timber table incorporates a single rectangular drawer fitted with a central brass knob, surmounted by a pierced brass gallery rail. Above the table, an adjustable vertical shaft carries a circular mirror housed within a wooden frame, and the entire assembly is supported on a slender black-painted iron tripod base with curved legs terminating in small brass ball feet and connected by a lower stretcher ring. Measuring 142.2 cm high, 35.6 cm wide, and 35.6 cm deep, the stand serves as a functional piece of antique furniture suitable for placement in an empty corner of a traditional bedroom or gentleman's library. It provides a compact surface with integrated storage alongside an adjustable grooming glass, making it practical for daily use or display purposes in a period interior.

Developed during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, a shaving stand is a specialized piece of freestanding dressing furniture featuring an adjustable mirror and a small shelf or drawer designed to store grooming tools such as razors, brushes, and soap.

Authentic period stands were crafted using fine cabinet woods such as mahogany, rosewood, or walnut, combined with wrought iron or brass for telescoping shafts, gallery rails, and sturdy tripod bases.

Original pieces feature period-correct joinery on the central drawer box, functional brass thumbscrews or telescoping mechanisms for height adjustment, and original brass fittings alongside aged mirror glass.

These slender, vertical pieces function well as accent mirrors in compact dressing rooms, hallways, or bathrooms, introducing historical character without taking up significant floor space.

Maintain the timber components with beeswax polish, clean brass fittings gently without abrasive cleaners to protect natural patination, and clean mirror surfaces using a damp microfibre cloth.
