Georgian Silver Diamond Paste Drop Earrings

18th century
Description

Pretty 18th-century silver drop earrings set with foiled pastes designed to imitate diamonds. (Diamonds and paste - crystal and later glass - were usually foil backed up till the mid-19th century to make them reflect the candlelight better.) It's nice to see the typically Georgian enclosed backs and crimped collet settings, and all the stones are beautifully white and bright.

• Condition: The earrings are in very good antique condition, the wires are slightly bent.

• Hallmarks/stamps: None, tested as silver.

• Fixing: Silver ear wires, supplied with tiny silicone "keepers" to pop over the ends for security.

• Era: Estimated late Georgian-early Victorian (c.late 1700s-early 1800s).

• Size: Approximately 3cm from the top of the ear wire to the bottom of the drop or 2.3cm without the wire. The top section is 5mm across, the bottom section 8mm.

• Weight: 2.7g.

IMPORTANT! All items are vintage or antique and as such show light general wear appropriate to their age. Bear in mind photos are very magnified and flaws which can be seen in the pictures are often imperceptible to the naked eye in real life. I always do my very best to point out any additional flaws, but please look carefully at all the photos as they are an important part of the listing and do ask if you have any questions!

FREE INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING! Items to UK addresses are sent via Royal Mail Special Delivery or Tracked 48, and overseas items are shipped with a tracked and signed service where available.

US-BASED BUYERS Please advise before paying if your shipping address is in the US - some (though not all) orders may incur additional taxes because of the new US tariffs but I will always do my best to minimise extra costs for you!

EASY RETURNS Any item can be returned within 14 days for a full refund. Items must be returned in the same condition they were sent out and unless an item is faulty postage will be deducted, alongside any costs (bank charges etc) which may have been incurred. If in doubt, do please ask!

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
