Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 19TH CENTURY:
Knotted wool pile visible on the back: hand weaving from a traditional workshop.
Uneven colour shading in the field: natural wools dyed in small batches.
Dark brown wool worn slightly lower: typical oxidisation of iron-mordanted dye.
Fringes and edges show gentle, softening at both ends.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century antique hand-knotted North West Persian runner rug employs a wool pile displaying terracotta and navy blue tones alongside saffron yellow and pale blue accents. The design consists of a dark central field set with a succession of geometric diamond medallions featuring multi-tiered latch-hook motifs, enclosed by elaborate serrated line borders containing rosettes. Signs of age include a little wear to the ends alongside an even pile, presenting an authentic tribal style well suited to an English country house interior. The floor covering measures 292 cm high by 109 cm wide with a 1 cm depth, providing a practical narrow format for long hallways or corridors. Placement in a domestic setting creates a striking focal point underfoot while adding warmth and traditional pattern to circulation spaces or transition areas.

FAQs

Originating from regions such as Azerbaijan and Kurdistan, these hand-knotted textiles typically feature narrow proportions, bold geometric diamond medallions, and rich natural dyes.

These runners are traditionally hand-knotted using hand-spun wool pile woven onto a wool foundation, utilizing dyes derived from plants and minerals.

Authentic pieces exhibit minor irregularities in pattern symmetry, natural abrash colour variation across the pile, and clear design definition visible on the underside.

A geometric tribal runner introduces depth and historical texture when positioned along a neutral hallway, narrow corridor, or entryway.

Vacuum regularly using suction only without a rotating brush bar, rotate periodically to balance foot traffic wear, and utilize specialist rug cleaning services when required.
