We are delighted to offer this marvellous antique Georgian 9ct gold natural seed pearl necklace made c.1800.
Sweet, delicate and enchanting, this necklace presents a classical Georgian design adorned with fine natural seed pearls, all meticulously drilled and threaded. What is particularly delightful and elegant about this piece is the graduated pearls towards the bottom, a small attention to detail, yet a feature that culminates in an even more stunning appearance highlighting the wearer''s neck. (Please note the graduated larger pearls at the bottom may be cultured antique pearls, unlike the natural smaller seed pearls).
Seed pearl jewellery became fashionable in the late Georgian period and natural pearls (2mm or less and varied in shape due to natural sourcing) were intricately crafted into all manner of jewellery such as necklaces, earrings and even tiaras..
Traditionally in such times, jewellery was often associated with symbolic meanings and seed pearls were usually ass...ociated with innocence and purity. As such, this necklace could serve as the perfect gift - an understated yet elegant accoutrement to have in one''s collection.
