Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the Georgian era, sculptors and woodcarvers produced allegorical figures representing virtues, classical mythology, or religious symbols for private libraries and stately homes. These carved figures reflected the eras appreciation for Neoclassical themes and detailed craftsmanship.

Carvers typically utilised dense native European hardwoods such as oak, walnut, pine, or fruitwood. The finished timber was usually treated with natural beeswax, oil, or lacquer to preserve the wood grain and protect against humidity.

Authentic pieces exhibit signs of period carving techniques, including hand-chisel marks, natural shrinkage cracks along the grain, and deep patination in recessed areas. The subtle irregularities in hand carving distinguish historical figures from modern machine-moulded reproductions.

Positioning a carved wooden figure on a sideboard, fireplace mantelpiece, or shelf creates a striking focal point. The warm timber tones contrast thoughtfully against contemporary minimalist backdrops or muted plaster walls.

Dust the carving regularly using a soft, dry brush to clean intricate recesses. Periodically apply a clear, high-quality beeswax polish with a microfibre cloth, keeping the item away from direct heat sources and damp environments to prevent splitting.
