Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Italian sculptors in regions such as Volterra and Florence specialised in carving alabaster due to its soft texture and translucent qualities. These pieces often depicted classical, allegorical, or genre subjects, catering to international art collectors and Grand Tour travellers.

Alabaster is a fine-grained form of gypsum or calcite that is softer than marble, allowing for detailed hand-carving using rasps, chisels, and hand drills. Once carved, the stone was smoothed with fine abrasives and polished, often mounted on an integral or separate stone pedestal.

Authentic late 19th-century Italian alabaster sculptures typically exhibit hand-carved detail work, natural stone veining, and incised artist signatures near the base. Genuine aged alabaster also shows subtle surface patination and translucency when exposed to ambient light.

A carved stone figure functions as a focal accent when placed on a dark wooden sideboard, a stone mantelpiece, or inside a dedicated display niche. The pale tones of alabaster contrast against dark backgrounds, highlighting the carved contours of the stone.

Alabaster is a soft and slightly porous material that must not be cleaned with water or liquid detergents. Dust gently using a dry, soft microfibre cloth or soft natural-bristle brush, and keep the object away from high humidity and direct heat sources.
