The Farnese Flora is a classical Roman sculpture of the goddess of flowers and spring, discovered in the 16th century at the Baths of Caracalla. During the 18th century, accurate carved reduced-scale copies became key acquisitions for European travellers completing the Grand Tour.

Limewood, or linden wood, features a tight, uniform grain and soft structure that cuts evenly in any direction without splintering. These properties permitted sculptors to achieve complex drapery folds, delicate facial features, and refined anatomical details.

Authentic period wood carvings exhibit hand-tooling marks, subtle asymmetry, and natural timber shrinkage along the grain line. The surface typically displays historic patina, gentle wear on raised edges, and evidence of aged structural joins.

A classical carved figure creates contrast when displayed on a minimalist sideboard, marble fireplace mantle, or architectural plinth. Pairing timber statuary with clean contemporary lines elevates both the rooms texture and the artworks historical silhouette.

Dust the sculpture regularly using a soft, dry bristle brush to reach interior drapery crevices. Maintain a stable indoor climate away from direct sunlight, radiators, or damp conditions to prevent timber splitting and warp.
