The George I period spans the early 18th century, characterised by the transition from heavy baroque designs to more refined, elegant proportions, often utilising rich veneers like burr walnut.

Pieces from this era typically feature native oak and pine secondary timbers, faced with expensive decorative veneers such as burr walnut, secured with hand-cut dovetails and brass hardware.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-correct construction methods including hand-cut dovetailing, patination consistent with age, original or period brasses, and timber shrinkage cracks inherent to aged wood.

This piece can be integrated into a modern home office or living room by pairing it with minimalist seating to highlight its rich wood tones and historic craftsmanship without overwhelming the space.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and periodically applying microcrystalline wax to nourish and protect the wood finish.
