With a superb colour and patina, this is a particularly fine early Georgian kneehole desk demonstrating the highest quality period cabinet work and with a brushing slide, beautifully made and lined oak drawers with fine dovetails and thickly cut and well matched walnut veneers with crossbanding and featherbanding dressing the solid oak carcase. A most ingenious and rarely seen feature is that the kneehole cupboard slides forward when the desk is not in use, giving this piece a secondary use as a sideboard.The brass handles are original throughout as are all but one of the locks. Set on original bracket feet and of small well balanced proportions, the desk is entirely comfortable and usable with a long and slender frieze drawer over two banks of three graduated drawers.
