Silver sauce labels and bottle tickets emerged in the mid-18th century as dining customs evolved, serving to identify contents of decanters, cruets, and sauce tureens on formal dining tables.

These items were predominantly crafted from sterling silver using techniques such as die-stamping, hand-engraving, and piercing, often featuring cast or applied decorative borders.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit period hallmarks, makers marks, characteristic hand-engraved lettering, and natural age-related patination, distinguishing them from modern reproductions.

These small collectibles can be displayed within glass-fronted cabinets, mounted in shadow boxes, or utilised to style tabletop displays in dining rooms and studies.

Preservation involves storing pieces in tarnish-resistant environments, minimising abrasive polishing to protect hallmarks and engraving, and handling with clean, dry hands.
