Silver sauce labels, also known as bottle tickets, originated in the mid-18th century in Britain to identify various wines, spirits, and culinary sauces held in decanters and castors before permanent etching became common.

These items were predominantly crafted from sterling silver using techniques such as die-stamping, hand-engraving, piercing, and bezel-setting, often finished with a suspension chain.

Authentic pieces typically feature period hallmarks, maker marks, characteristic patination, and hand-cut lettering styles consistent with 18th-century silversmithing practices.

These small collectable items are frequently displayed within shadow boxes, mounted in frames, or kept in specialist collectors cabinets as part of a curated tablesalia collection.

Preservation requires minimal cleaning with a soft microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh abrasive polishes that can wear away hand-engraving and historical patination over time.
