Charles Horner established a manufacturing business in Halifax, Yorkshire, in the late 19th century, becoming renowned for his innovative silver hatpins, brooches, and enamelled pieces associated with the Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau movements.

Pieces from this maker typically utilised sterling silver, often combined with vitreous enamel, paste stones, or Scottish gemstones, shaped using traditional silversmithing techniques such as hand-stamping and wire-forming.

Authenticity is verified by locating the makers registered trademark stamp, usually showing the CH monogram, alongside traditional British sterling silver hallmarks indicating the assay office, standard mark, and date letter.

These decorative items can be pinned to the lapel of a tailored blazer, fastened at the neckline of a knit jumper, or used to secure a silk scarf, adding a touch of historical detail to modern outfits.

Antique silver should be gently cleaned with a specialised microfibre polishing cloth to remove tarnish without damaging patination or delicate stones, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can erode fine details.
