Description

An unusual and very fine quality Maltese filigree silver and silver-gilt model of a galleon, in perfect original condition. The three-masted vessel is set with 6 sails, five of which are inset with red enamel Maltese crosses. Two of the masts are surmounted by a pendant and the Maltese flag, whilst the hull is fashioned with portholes; two anchors and a rudder which is impressed with the silver hallmarks. It is set upon a pretty filigree base, with matching filigree feet, and measures 11ins high and 11.5ins long (28 x 29cms). 12.5ozs (390 grams). Victorian/Edwardian, probably intended as a table centrepiece?
