Corinthian column lamps are lighting fixtures styled after classical Greek and Roman architecture, featuring ornate acanthus leaf capitals. They became highly fashionable during the 19th century as neoclassical revivals swept through Europe.

These bases are typically constructed from a base metal such as brass, copper, or Britannia metal, which is then coated in a layer of silver using traditional electroplating techniques developed in the 19th century.

Authentic 19th-century pieces often exhibit wear to the silver plating revealing the base metal underneath, hand-cut threads on interior components, and makers marks or registration numbers stamped into the metal base.

Pair this piece with a simple, oversized linen or silk drum shade to create a striking contrast between traditional classical form and contemporary minimalist textures.

Clean gently with a soft microfibre cloth and specialized silver cleaner only when necessary to preserve the remaining plating. Avoid harsh chemical dips that can strip the historic surface.
