Antique Turkmen Spindle-bag, Yomut Tribe, Trans-caspian Steppes, Turkmenistan, Central Asia.

This beautiful utilitarian bag was used specifically for containing wooden spindles.
 
The bag is unusually, fully complete, with undyed wool, plain-weave back, braided side-cords and decorated with tassels symbolising good luck.
 
Made by Yomut Turkmen in the trans-Caspian steppes of Turkmenistan sometime between 1880-1900, the central design on the face comprises a stylised ''tree-of-life''.
 
Size: 50 x 24cm (1'' 8'' x 9'') excluding tassels.
