Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Eighteenth-century British coastal paintings frequently depict working maritime life, fishing vessels, and atmospheric natural lighting. Artists of this period focused on naturalistic scenery combined with genre scenes illustrating local figures on beaches and coastlines.

Paintings from the Georgian era were created using oil-based pigments applied onto natural flax or linen canvas stretched over wooden frames. The accompanying frames were constructed from carved wood coated with a gesso base and finished with genuine gold leaf gilding.

Authentic 18th-century oil paintings generally display age-appropriate craquelure across the paint surface, hand-forged structural tacks or wooden keys in the stretcher joints, and natural oxidisation or darkening on the reverse of the canvas.

Large giltwood framed paintings function as focal points when mounted above a mantelpiece or console table in classical or contemporary interiors. Position0ing the piece against dark or neutral backdrops highlights the warm gold leaf tones and intricate carved frame details.

Preserve oil paintings by maintaining stable indoor humidity and avoiding direct exposure to sunlight or heating elements. Dust giltwood frames using a dry, soft-bristled brush, avoiding liquid cleaners which can dissolve historic gesso and gilding.
