Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian glass lustre is a decorative vessel, typically made of opaque or coloured glass, designed to display suspended crystal prisms. Popular throughout 19th-century Britain, these items were commonly placed on fireplace mantels to catch and refract light.

Antique glass lustres are primarily crafted from hand-blown coloured glass, such as opaline, bristol, or overlay glass. They feature hand-painted enamel or gilded embellishments and suspended cut-crystal prism drops connected by metal wires.

Authentic 19th-century pieces usually exhibit slight hand-blown irregularities, polished pontil marks on the base, and age-appropriate wear to gilded or enamelled areas. The hanging prisms are typically hand-cut crystal rather than modern moulded glass.

A glass lustre serves as a focal accent on a fireplace mantelpiece, sideboard top, or console table. Positioning the piece near natural light or ambient lamp illumination allows the crystal prisms to create light refractions across the room.

Clean the glass body gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth to protect surface gilding and enamel work. Detach the crystal prisms carefully before wiping them individually with warm water, avoiding harsh chemical detergents.
