Georgian Mahogany and Boxwood Inlaid Gentlemans Washstand, Late 18th Century (George Iii, Folding Top, Mirror, Tambour Cabinet, Commode)

18th century
Description

A George III Mahogany and Boxwood Inlaid Washstand, Late 18th Century

A fine George III period mahogany washstand, inlaid with boxwood stringing and displaying a warm, well-developed patina. The folding top opens to reveal an inset, retractable mirror and a fitted interior. Below lies a tambour-fronted section, shaped apron, and pull-out commode compartment, all supported on elegant square chamfered legs. The piece exemplifies the refined craftsmanship and discreet utility characteristic of late 18th-century English furniture design.

Compact and well-proportioned, this washstand would make a handsome addition to both period and contemporary interiors, serving equally well as a bedside, occasional, or decorative piece.

Dimensions (Approximate):

Height: 86.25 cm (34")

Width: 45.75 cm (18")

Depth: 48 cm (19")

Condition:

The washstand is in good condition for its age, structurally sound and complete. The mahogany displays a rich colour and attractive patina, with boxwood inlay intact. Minor surface marks and age-related blemishes are present, with old running repairs to the legs and apron. Complete with chamber pot and lid. Ready for display or light functional use.

As with all antique furniture, wear and signs of age are consistent with its history and contribute to its character.
