Description

A really stylish box, almost trophy-like with it's stylized handles ending in figural Lion heads.

The underside is marked for the English silversmith's, Joshua Maxfield & Sons of Sheffield founded in 1894, with this piece dating to around 1900, late Victorian in era. The style is almost contemporary, perhaps Arts and Crafts in influence which fits perfect with the date of the piece.

The top has a wonderful and glamorous finial with turned Fruitwood sphere.

Fully marked on the underside. Excellent condition, measuring 8 1/2" at widest (handle to handle) x 7 1/4" tall.
