We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the Victorian era, the rise of the middle class and changes in tax laws led to a boom in cigar consumption, necessitating portable storage solutions like silver cases to protect delicate tobacco products in pockets.

These cases were typically manufactured using sterling silver, often featuring interior gold gilding to prevent the corrosion of the metal from tobacco oils, alongside leather or wooden linings.

Authenticity is determined by examining British hallmarks stamped on the metal, which include a makers mark, standard mark indicating silver purity, city assay office mark, and a date letter corresponding to the year of manufacture.

These compact items function well as decorative objects on a coffee table, desk, or inside a glass-fronted cabinet alongside other small metal collectables.

Silver items should be cleaned sparingly using a specialist non-abrasive silver cloth to remove tarnish, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can damage the underlying metal and historical patina.
