This Victorian coal box from 1890 comes in dark brown mahogany with a polished timber finish. The piece takes the form of an upright purdonium, combining an open upper display tier with a lower coal compartment behind a drop-down door. Four slender turned spindles support the top tier, which is finished with small brass finials at the rear corners. The exterior includes a carved foliate panel set into the front door, a slatted ventilation section above the panel, and an ornate brass drop handle. Turned mahogany feet fitted with original metal castors support the base. The dimensions measure 109 cm high, 42 cm wide, and 41.5 cm deep.
