Description

A very finely engraved Egyptian antique solid silver dish, plate or tray. It is hallmarked with the 900 silver mark and tests as such, I would date it to c1940's. It has been superbly made being engraved with script and a boarder of fish. It is in superb condition being free from dings splits distortions holes and repairs, tiny dimple to the base see final photo. It measures approx. 6 inches (15.5cm) across and weigh 124 grams. A very nice example.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Mid-century Egyptian silver objects often reflect traditional Islamic and Pharaonic design motifs, typically crafted in 900 standard silver within the bustling souks and workshops of Cairo and Alexandria.

These items are generally crafted from 900 grade silver, which is slightly lower in purity than sterling, and frequently feature traditional government assay office hallmarks such as the lotus flower or cat stamp alongside date symbols.

Authentication involves examining the crispness of the hand-engraved or chased detailing, checking for official assay marks, and testing the metal purity to confirm 900 grade silver standard.

This piece can be displayed on a dark wood side table, mounted on a wall plate hanger, or used as a catch-all tray to introduce metallic texture and global heritage into a modern space.

Preservation requires gentle dusting with a soft microfibre cloth and minimal use of harsh chemical polishes to protect the fine hand-engraved details and the natural oxidisation in the recessed areas.
