Technical Description

A rare Japanese solid silver Chirori Carafe dating to Meiji period, late 19th century.

The Chirori was used to heat and pour warm sake and is typically found in tin, cooper or brass. This example is very rare solid silver and has the Japanese hall marks dating to the late 19th century.

The first hallmark (??) meaning "Jungin" Translates to pure silver.

The second hallmark in the box ( ??? ) and ( ?? ) meaning "Aizu" and " Kobo ". Aizu likely pertaining to the region in japan it was made and Kobo translates to "Workshop" or "studio" so ( Aizu Workshop ).

The third hallmark ( ?? ) means "seiga" translates to graceful or elegant.

It has hammered decoration and a handle wrapped in thin strips of bamboo or rattan.

Date & Origin

Japan, c1900.

Condition

Excellent. No chips, cracks or restoration.
