Description

A fine example of a small antique vesta case. The main body is made from a nut which is embellished with silver bands and a silver shield shaped cartouche. The band is engraved "J.McLachlan" and the shield is engraved "Paisley 1888". It has a hinged lid and a ribbed base for striking.

It is good quality and a very well made piece. It is in good condition and the nut surface has a beautiful patina. There are signs of age and use, some faint surface marks and a small knock and split in the top of the nut (see photo) but overall it displays well and the hinge and catch work smoothly. It has been gently cleaned and polished and is ready for use.
