Chinese Imari porcelain was produced primarily during the 18th century for export to European markets, combining traditional Chinese ceramic production with the distinct blue, iron-red, and gilt colour palette made popular by Japanese Imari wares.

These pieces were crafted from kaolin clay, decorated with underglaze cobalt blue, fired at high temperatures, and subsequently embellished with overglaze iron-red enamel and gold gilding before a second lower-temperature firing.

Authentic 18th-century pieces feature hand-painted underglaze blue and overglaze enamel decoration, characteristic foot rim wear, glaze pinholes or firing imperfections, and subtle age-related wear to the gold leaf detailing.
