Prometheus Antiques has dated this Framed Oil Portrait Painting to the 1920s.
The painting brilliantly represents the seated lady in her historic costume in the most modern and dynamic technique. The painting is signed and dated to the upper left ‘Schier 1921’. There is little known about the artist Paul Schier other than he was born in 1889 in Germany, probably Leipzig and that he was a student of Robert Sterl at the Dresden Academy, based in Karsdorf. The work of Schier seems to have been very traditional and commercial apart from a short period in the 1920’s where he experimented with this impressionist technique painting historical subjects. The painting is in good condition it, has had a tear repaired in the lower right which has been restored. The good quality bronzed-gold swept frame is the original and in good condition. A superbly decorative portrait with a great juxtaposing of the historic subject with a modern and vibrant painting technique.
