Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Novelty animal brooches gained immense popularity during the mid-20th century, particularly in the 1950s and 1960s. Jewellery houses produced stylized canine, feline, and avian motifs in precious metals to reflect playful fashion trends.

Pieces from this era were commonly cast in 9ct or 18ct yellow gold, featuring textured finishing techniques like bark effect or chased fur. Gemstones such as garnets, rubies, or sapphires were frequently set for the eyes.

Authentic British pieces bear official assay office hallmarks stamped into the metal, indicating the gold purity, the assay town, the makers mark, and a specific date letter representing the year of manufacture.

A vintage brooch can be attached to coat lapels, heavy silk scarves, cardigans, or velvet jackets. Alternatively, collectable pieces can be mounted on fabric inside a framed display box when not being worn.

Clean gold jewellery using lukewarm water, mild detergent, and a soft-bristled brush, taking care around stone settings. Wipe dry with a lint-free cloth and regularly inspect the pin and safety catch mechanism.
