Queen Anne style furniture, emerging in the early 18th century, is characterised by graceful curved lines, pad feet, and a focus on comfort and domestic utility. Walnut became the dominant wood, often highlighted by rich veneers and minimal carved ornamentation compared to earlier baroque periods.

These pieces were typically constructed from walnut, often utilising delicate veneers and cross-banding over secondary softwoods like oak or pine. Traditional joinery techniques such as dovetailed drawer construction and hand-cast brass hardware were standard for this period.

Authenticity is assessed by examining hand-cut dovetails, the presence of original or period-correct brasses, timber shrinkage consistent with age, and construction methods utilizing pit-sawn or hand-planed secondary woods without modern machine marks.

An antique desk serves as a striking focal point in a modern study or living area, pairing well with minimalist seating to highlight its historic craftsmanship and warm timber tones through contrast.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity and temperature levels, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent fading, and treating the timber periodically with traditional beeswax rather than modern silicone polishes.
