Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Neoclassical decorative metalware draws inspiration from ancient Greek and Roman art, experiencing major revivals during the 18th, 19th, and early 20th centuries with a focus on symmetry, mythological motifs, and classical proportions.

These pieces are typically crafted from a base metal such as copper, brass, or Britannia metal that undergoes electroplating with silver, often featuring detailed repousse work, embossing, or cast applied borders.

Authenticity is generally determined by examining makers marks, hallmarks, weight, wear patterns on the silver layer revealing the base metal underneath, and traditional hand-finishing techniques compared to modern mass production.

A large statement wall charger can be mounted centrally as a focal point above a sideboard or fireplace, or displayed on a sturdy plate stand within a bookcase to add metallic texture and classical gravitas.

Maintain silver-plated items by gently dusting with a microfibre cloth and using specialized non-abrasive silver polish sparingly only when necessary, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can damage the underlying plating and antique patina.
