This antique North West Persian Kurdish village runner rug originates from around 1900 and exemplifies traditional Persian tribal style. Made from wool, the piece presents a soft madder red central field displaying a large-scale herati design in soft blues and yellows, framed by multiple narrow navy blue and cream decorative borders containing geometric motifs and floral palmettes. The hand-washed rug shows slight even wear and an almost full pile, sitting flat on the floor. The runner measures 483 cm high by 106 cm wide and 1 cm deep. Suitable for normal domestic floor use, the runner works well in an English Country House setting to decorate long hallways, corridors, or entryways.

Antique Persian Kurdish runners are long, narrow hand-knotted textiles woven by Kurdish tribes in North West Persia during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, characteristically featuring geometric tribal motifs, saturated dyes, and durable wool construction.

These carpets are hand-knotted using locally sourced hand-spun sheep wool for both the pile and the foundation, coloured with natural vegetable and mineral dyes.

Authentic pieces exhibit natural colour variations known as abrash, geometric tribal patterns rather than symmetrical factory designs, and a soft handle with hand-bound selvedges.

A tribal runner adds saturated colour and historic texture to narrow spaces such as hallways, entryways, or corridors, pairing effectively with both dark wood and contemporary minimal decor.

Vacuum regularly using a suction-only attachment without a rotating beater bar, place a non-slip pad underneath to reduce friction wear, and consult a specialist rug cleaner for deep maintenance.
