Edwardian silver, produced during the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, is characterised by lighter, more graceful designs often influenced by earlier Georgian and neoclassical motifs, moving away from the heavy ornamentation of the Victorian era.

These items were typically constructed from sterling silver, often featuring engine-turned patterns, hand-engraving, or embossed decoration, housing a retractable linen or silk measuring tape with metal ends.

Authenticity is verified through clear hallmarks stamped on the metal, which include the makers mark, the standard mark for sterling silver, the town mark indicating the assay office (such as the three-sheaves-and-sword for Chester), and a date letter corresponding to the specific year of assay.

Such collectables can be displayed within glass-topped coffee table vitrines, styled on open shelving alongside books, or integrated into a curated desk display to add historical texture and refined detail to a space.

Antique silver should be cleaned sparingly using a non-abrasive silver cloth to remove tarnish while preserving the original patina, and stored in a low-humidity environment away from direct sunlight.
